Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 8) by Mangaka-chan
Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 8)
Act 4 Future, Dream of Memories
Part 8

The rainy season in Japan is from May to July, depending on the region, which fits nicely with the timeline of the doujinshi. It's also the raining season right now here in Southern California, though our rainy season assuming it actually rains is during the winter.

Progress on FR has been slow of late, mostly due to work. But I did manage to sketch out the rough draft for Act 4's cover, with Sailor Pallas. There's only a handful of pages to go before I wrap up this act, so I hope to post the cover soon. :)

Art nouveau border by Mangaka-chan
Art nouveau border
I was looking at some art nouveau inspired fanart on Pixiv when I got the urge to make a stock art nouveau border I blame it on the fact that I haven't drawn anything in a week and I need to get something out of my system. Having never done this before getting the geometry was a bit tricky on Photoshop but I'm pretty happy with the result. :)

I may very well use this stock for my own art, but if you'd like to use it please follow these rules:

1) Please credit Mangaka-chan and link back to this page.

2) I'd love to see what people do with this, so please leave a comment with a link to your work using the stock.

3) Please don't use this stock to make your own stock. If you are inspired by this stock your image must be significantly different from this image.

4) This work is not for commercial use without consent. If you'd like to use this to make prints please contact me.

5) Please do not claim this as your own.

Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 7) by Mangaka-chan
Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 7)
Act 4 Future, Dream of Memories
Part 7

My drawing pace is gonna slow down a bit as I try to get back into writing a Princess Tutu fanfic I started a number of years ago. Let's hope I can juggle two projects without my Muse petering out.

Also, someone had asked me why young!Chibi Usa doesn't recognize Helios when she saw him. The events in this scene precedes the Death Phantom’s first attack on Crystal Tokyo in the manga canon. The manga gave very little information on that event, except to say that the Death Phantom “single-handedly destroyed Crystal Tokyo, and transformed it into a city of crime.” It was implied that this event took place many years, likely many centuries ago, long enough that people (who, in the age of Crystal Tokyo, live for a long time) had forgotten about him. So this scene would’ve taken place hundreds of years before Chibi Usa would make her fateful trip to the 20th century.

Given that Chibi Usa was already 900 years old at the beginning of the Black Moon arc, I think it’s very likely that she was around when the Death Phantom first struck, though she would’ve been very young, relatively speaking. However, the time between when she first catches a glimpse of Helios in this scene and when she meets him properly would’ve been on the order of centuries. She wouldn't recognize him after having only caught a glimpse of him when she was younger, and then not see him again for hundreds of years.

I think the more interesting question though, is whether Helios recognizes Chibi Usa. ;)

Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 6) by Mangaka-chan
Future Reunion - Act 4 (Part 6)
Act 4 Future, Dream of Memories
Part 6

Yet more teenage angst from Chibi Usa. But I think even though she’d be worried and upset about what Pluto just told her, she’s the kind of person who doesn’t want to worry other people about her own troubles when everyone’s already preoccupied and concerned about a greater problem.

Season's Greetings by Mangaka-chan
Season's Greetings
This is my Secret Santa gift to silvermoon424 for the 2014 Tuxesecret Santa gift exchange on Tumblr. The giftee really like the friendship between the girls, so I drew a fanart that showed some of the activities Chibi Usa might be doing with the girls during the holiday season in Japan.

While Christmas is mostly a secular holiday in Japan, people there still enjoy it in many different ways. One of the ways Japanese people enjoy Christmas is eating Christmas cakes, which are typically made with sponge cake, whipped cream, and strawberries. I think Makoto would definitely make her own Christmas cake (or rather, cakes, since Usagi can’t have just one ^_~). Ami would help by precisely measuring out the ingredients as per her handy cook book, while Chibi Usa would help slice strawberries to decorate the cake.

In addition to cakes, Christmas songs are also popular in Japan. Minako, who’s been to England, might know a few English Christmas songs in addition to popular Japanese Christmas songs. I think she would also be more than happy to give an impromptu concert with a carrot microphone after helping Chibi Usa build a snow man at the Hikawa Shrine with Rei.

While Christmas is a newly introduced holiday, New Years is traditionally an important holiday in Japan, and there’s a wealth of traditions and activities people participate in to celebrate the New Year. People will dress up in kimonos and go visit shrines to wish for good luck in the new year. Around New Years it’s also popular for people to play a game called hanetsuki, a paddle based game that’s like a cross between badminton and table tennis, but with no nets. The goal of the sport is to keep a shuttlecock in the air for as long as possible while two players play a rally. Whoever misses or looses gets their face marked with India ink. I image after a shrine visit, Usagi and Chibi Usa would start playing hanetsuki in Juuban Park while Mamoru and Luna look on…a game which invariably ends with Usagi getting mad at Chibi Usa for winning (by a narrow margin), and the girls start chasing each other around the park, all the while wearing their formal kimonos. XD

It's actually not fanart; it's a photo of a fan-made figurine of Princess Tutu that was sold at a garage kit event many years ago. I just thought the photos the model maker took were very pretty, so I cropped one and used it as an icon. ^^; I forget the name of the model maker, but I think if you Google "Princess Tutu garage kit" you'll probably find it.
