Four pages within 24h? This might be another record! But in all seriousness, my boss just sent me the date that I have to submit my paper, so now I have a proverbial fire lit under my butt. I really need to focus now, but I wanted to get these pages of FR out first so I won’t keep thinking about the doujinshi while I commit myself to writing for work.

Regarding the “Gates of Horn and Ivory” referenced here, this is indeed a conundrum that classical scholars have been puzzling over for millennia (the Aeneid was written around 19 BC). Aeneas was thought to be the ancestors of the Romans, specifically the foundation of Rome itself. It is believed that Virgil wrote the Aeneid as a way to promote Roman history and the political establishment at the time, so it’s puzzling that he would suggest that the rule of Aeneas’ descendants was illegitimate, or false, in someway. One explanation for this paradox is that Virgil did not intend for his words to be taken literally, that he was writing the epic of Aeneas’ journey as an allegory.
