Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity

After an eventful weekend I managed to finish the paper craft for Small Lady!  

I was originally worried there’d be too much pink, but all the different shades of pink made it so it wasn’t overwhelming. Her dress is made from a pearlescent pink paper, an effect you can see more clearly in the second photo. I wanted to make the bow of her dress out of wired ribbon but it was a lot harder than I imagined, so I reverted to good 'ol vellum instead. I picked this particular paper for the background because the iridescent flower print remind me of Small Lady’s Pink Crystal.

And speaking of the Pink Crystal, you might be wondering why I showed Small Lady holding the Crystal Carillon instead of her own crystal, and it’s for two reasons. Firstly, the Pink Crystal isn’t depicted in the canon in association with a staff/wand, so it would just be a standalone crystal instead of a weapon like the other senshi in this series have. However, Small Lady is able to call on Pegasus for help with the Carillon, and in the 90′s anime it even sorta worked as a weapon…even if it wasn’t very effective. Secondly, the royal family set will have more emphasis on the relationships between the pairings (i.e. Small Lady and Helios, Serenity and Endymion), so the Carillon is a nod to the relationship between Small Lady and Helios in this piece. I decided to use an opaque white vellum for the Carillon instead of pink and gold because I always felt that the 90′s anime version of the Carillon made it look gaudy and toy-like, and while there’s no colored image of the Carillon from the manga, I always imagined it as a clear, glass bell, which is the effect I went for here.
